Daniel Haston was the youngest son of Heinrich Hiestand, a 1727 Swiss-German Mennonite immigrant to America.  Henrich first settled in Lancaster County, PA by soon migrated to the Shenandoah Valley of northern VA, where Daniel Hiestand, the youngest of five sons, was bon in about 1750.  In 1773 Daniel married Christina Nave.
